Nov 16 ~Waveney Youth 3 - 3 Bungay U13

Bungay failed to take advantage of their share of possession and needed a late fightback for a draw which dented Waveney's 100% record. They started the game with all guns blazing. In midfield Josh, Harry R and Miles fought for every ball, with wide players Rhys and Lambert tormenting the home defence. Rhys soon went through but the keeper saved well, and Lambert shot wide. With Curtis and Ashley taking their place in midfield there was no let up in the pressure, and it was some surprise that the first half ended scoreless.

Bungay’s passing allowed them to pepper the Waveney goal, but when the Bungay defence failed to control a through ball it was the Waveney striker was first on the scoresheet. After three sublime corners from Curtis, Kieron on his birthday rose to head home his first of the season. Harry hit the post and Lambert hit the bar but Bungay could still not edge ahead. In fact a defensive mistake put them behind, and before long they found themselves trailing 3-1. The chances continued to fall Bungay’s way and with 6 minutes left Ashley finished coolly in the bottom corner with his first for the club. After more chances and with just 30 seconds remaining Sam turned and skillfully ran on to a through ball to equalize, much to Bungay’s relief.

Nobody could deny that Bungay deserved at least a draw after one of their best performances, particularly for work rate, passing and determination. It was pleasing that Ashley and Curtis came off the bench to influence the result.

Nov 9 ~ Bungay U13 3 - 4 Gorleston Rangers U13C

Bungay returned to action after three weeks in this thrilling encounter, eventually missing out on the points in the last few minutes.

Producing good football from the start Bungay were unfortunate to be behind after five minutes when a long throw was flicked on and turned in. Bungay strung together a series of flowing moves, and went closest to equalising half a dozen times in a frantic goalmouth scramble, but they went further behind when a Gorleston corner was headed home. Knowing that their passing game would yield results Bungay pulled one back when Miles squared the ball for the advancing Josh whose calmly placed shot squirmed in under the keeper. They were back on terms when Miles's shot was pushed out for Lambert to score from close range. Before the break Tom's dribble and shot was cleared by a defender with the keeper beaten.

The second half was keenly contested with Ben at the back throwing himself in front of several efforts, and Kieron performing heroics at left back. On the other flank Charlie's throw-ins were causing problems, but it was the visitor's expertise at corners in the windy conditions which put them back ahead with another header. Bungay hit back immediately after Sam exchanged incisive passes with Harry R and added number three. Both teams struggled to get the upper hand, and with a few minutes remaining it was Gorleston who broke through on the left and scored from the cross to seal the win.

Given the balance of the play Bungay's disappointment at the defeat was intense. This performance was however a huge improvement over the defeat to the same opposition a few weeks earlier and with a slice of luck this result could easily have been different.

Oct 19 ~ Freethorpe U13 2 - 9 Bungay U13

Bungay emerged as comfortable winners in this match without really producing their best form.

Most of Bungay's goals arrived in the first half. They took the lead after 10 minutes when Miles crossed for Sam to score from close range. Sam was on the end of a Curtis corner to add another and Josh's shot from a Miles cross was pushed out to Lambert who scored the third on the far post. A through ball from Tom led to Sam's hat trick after his first effort was pushed out by the keeper. Harry R set Lambert loose down the left to register number five from a narrow angle. Curtis's corners caused the home defence problems all day and Miles headed home another from the same source. Six goals ahead, Bungay relaxed their hold on the game and it was no surprise when Freethorpe opened their account after an attack down their right. After the break Freethorpe played with more spirit and hit the post, while Jake, nursing an injury in the Bungay goal, had a much busier day than he might have hoped for. At the other end Bungay produced some flowing moves when they put their minds to it, and before long Harry R added one more, a flicked header from yet another Curtis corner. Josh added his name to the scoresheet following a dribble from the left, but Freethorpe refused to lie down and a teasing corner went home as Charlie misplaced his clearance at the far post. With the result beyond doubt, a whole string of chances fell Bungay's way without another goal until Harry R's crafty chip set Sam away for his fourth. Just before the final whistle a fine move was finished by Lambert, whose own hat trick was ruled out after a slightly perplexing offside decision.

October 12th ~ Bungay U13 6 - 3 Bohemians A

Bungay twice came back from behind to take the points against the early season league leaders.

Under pressure at the start Bungay broke out and went close through Sam. Bohemians hit back strongly and put their first away after advancing through the centre. They quickly added another through their giant striker, so Bungay faced a two goal deficit after 15 minutes. They refused to surrender and took the game to the visitors. Their use of the wings paid dividends as Miles crossed for Josh to score from the edge of the area, and they were level when Miles's free kick was pushed out for Ben, whose shot fell to Lambert to score on the far post. Both teams had further chances and it was Bohemians who went ahead a shot rebounded high off the defence and was fired home. Bungay hit back immediately as a diagonal ball from Lambert found Sam who outpaced the defence to equalise.

Level at the break, Bungay faced a spirited period by the visitors during which Jake capped a fine performance with an impressive double save. At the other end Sam hit the post, and in this key period when the result could have gone either way it was Bungay who started to edge ahead in terms of possession as Harry H kept Bohemians' most dangerous forward under control. They converted their advantage into a lead when Miles advanced into the box and delayed, and delayed, before scoring convincingly. After an amazing goalmouth scramble when several players could have added another, Bungay scored twice more when first Sam and then Josh took advantage of two of the clever through balls Curtis had been serving up all the second half.

Any neutrals will have witnessed a superb match. Bungay's win was a true team effort, and their newly-found resilience will have pleased their supporters.  With the help of results elsewhere Bungay have edged back to top of the division on goal difference.

Sep 28 ~ Gorleston Rangers C 4-0 Bungay U13

Bungay's recent good form deserted them as they were well beaten by a competent Gorleston side. The home side probably had the greater possession and territory in the early stages, though Bungay went close with a long shot from Harry R. Gorleston broke through the Bungay defence to open the scoring after 20 minutes, and added an almost identical second before the break. Bungay were restricted to a few looping shots from distance. Hopes of a Bungay revival flickered briefly with a lob from Sam, but Gorleston were soon back into their stride, adding a third after the ball ran across the Bungay defence. Ashley produced a shot on target, but Gorleston added another with a cross and header. In the remaining minutes Bung there was a string of further chances for Gorleston and the four goal margin did not flatter them. At the end the Bungay players trooped off well aware that, for whatever reason, their performances had been some way below what they are capable of.

Sep 21~Bungay U13 3-2 Kirkley & Pakefield U13 B

A strong and determined performance from Bungay in this cup tie against higher division opponents saw them through to the next round. From the start it was clear that this was going to be a close match. The height and strength of Connor, the visitor's number 9, had caused Bungay problems in previous years, but this time Harry H marked him doggedly, and the first half was well advanced before he had his first clear chance when Jake turned a rocket over the bar. Most shots from K & P were just off target, but Bungay continued to threaten on the break, and after Josh went close, they took a half-time lead with a flowing move. Josh released Miles down the right and his pass was flicked on by Sam to Rhys who timed his run and shot to perfection. Bungay started the second half brightly and a lob from Josh brushed the post. K & P punished the briefest lapse of concentration and inevitably it was Connor who equalised with a turn and shot from the right. Bungay hit back with a goal of supreme quality. Miles took the ball to the goal line and flicked it past the full-back, crossing for Josh. Surrounded by defenders, he juggled the ball and turned to volley home. Bungay's best spell followed, as Josh and Sam went close to extending their lead. K & P regrouped and were level again through Connor who broke through the middle. The winner arrived when Lambert crossed from the left. The keeper struggled to hold it and the ball span agonisingly over the line. Bungay restricted any chances of a late equaliser, and Ashley and Harry R might have put them further ahead near the end. This was an excellent team performance in the sort of match where Bungay have struggled in earlier seasons.

Sep 14 ~ Corton Warriors U13 0 - 12 Bungay U13

Bungay's first match of the season ended in an emphatic win.  Playing on a large pitch with a brisk wind behind them Mark opened the scoring for Bungay with a high, swirling shot from distance which gave the home keeper no chance.  After seeing a couple of efforts cleared off the line, Bungay's passing game produced a steady string of chances, many of which found the net. Sam set up Josh for the second, before Tom and Harry R combined for Lambert to add another. Miles crossed for Harry R to score powerfully, and then was felled in the area, with Curtis converting the penalty. Another Miles cross fell to Lambert whose shot went in off the keeper, and a fine solo run by Sam produced the seventh before the interval. After half time it was likely that the wind would benefit Corton and so it proved as the Bungay had to scramble several attacks away with Charlie and Kieron defending strongly, and emergency keeper Harry H frequently rushing from his line. Bungay's attacking form soon returned and Tom added the next, bravely following up after Harry R's shot was pushed out. Curtis put Tom through for number nine, and Miles got onto the scoresheet following Sam's approach work. Sam provided the ammunition for Ben, advancing from full back, to score with relish, and the final goal arrived when Josh outpaced the home defence. There was still time for a Miles header to be ruled out.

Despite the margin of victory Corton's attitude was excellent throughout, and some of their moves indicated their potential. Bungay's goals were shared among nine of their twelve players.
